Jan. 6 hearings: Live coverage and latest updates

The Jan. 6 committee will share testimony demonstrating that Trump “knew privately that he had lost” despite perpetuating the “big lie,” Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.) said Monday ahead of the panel’s latest public hearing.

“We have direct testimony, some of which we’ll hear today, that people had conversations directly with the former president to tell him that he did not win,” Luria, a committee member, said in a CNN interview. “He was provided with all of the information to show that, all of the data, the returns, in a way that anyone who understands math would understand that he did not have the most votes and therefore was not the winner.”

Asked if Trump understood that, Luria said, “What we’ll hear will show that in the conversations he knew privately that he had lost, yet he decided to go out into the public and continue to say that he won, and he’s still doing that today.”
