Big props for that performance.
Tim van Rijthoven beats Russian Daniil Medvedev (ATP 2) 6: 4, 6: 1 in the final of the tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.
The special thing regarding it: Van Rijthoven started his sensational week as world number 205. Before that, he had not been able to win a single match at ATP level, he was only allowed to start in his home country thanks to a wildcard. His triumph in the 250cc tournament is immediately noticeable in the rankings. Thanks to a huge set of 99 places, the 25-year-old is now in 106th place.
“Try to process it”
«What a dream week. I’m still trying to understand everything that’s going on. As a tennis player, I think regarding my next match. But as Tim – the non-tennis player – I’m trying to process everything I’ve achieved, »says van Rijthoven following his exploit.
After the bankruptcy in the final, Medvedev is the sportsman and jokes with his opponent: “The first time in an ATP tournament and you destroy the number two in the world in two sets in the final. I think it must be a good feeling.” Small consolation for the inferior Russian: he has taken over the top position in the ATP ranking from Serbian Novak Djokovic since Monday.
Alexandrova, Berrettini and Haddad Maia victorious
Yekaterina Alexandrowa (WTA 30) wins the women’s tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The Russian defeated the top seeded Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (WTA 6) 7: 5, 6: 0 in the final.
In Stuttgart, Germany, Matteo Berrettini (ATP 10) is crowned champion. The Italian defeats the British Andy Murray (ATP 68) 6: 4, 5: 7, 6: 3.
Beatriz Haddad Maia (WTA 48) entered the list of tournament winners at WTA level for the first time. The Brazilian owes this milestone to a 6:4, 1:6, 6:3 win over Alison Riske (WTA 40). The American defeated the Swiss Viktorija Golubic (WTA 55) in the semifinals. (yap/smi)
