FST Jeon Seong-cheol and ANH Structure Choi Soo-young receive the June Engineer Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology

Winners in the first half of the women’s category: LG Innotek Lee Hyung-eui, LS Cable & System Cho Young-eun, Aquacell Kim Kyung-hee

The Ministry of Science and ICT (Ministry of Science and Technology) and the Korea Industrial Technology Association (Industrial Technology Association) announced on the 13th that they had selected Seong-cheol Jeon, Senior Researcher at FS, and Soo-young Choi, Team Leader of ANH Structure, as the recipients of the Korea Engineer Award in June.

Jeon Seong-cheol, a senior researcher at FS Co., Ltd., the winner of a conglomerate, was recognized for his contribution to the world’s first 100% automation of EPMD (EUV Pellilce Mounter and Demounter), a semiconductor production equipment, for leaping the competitiveness of domestic semiconductor equipment technology to the world level.

EPMD is an equipment that automatically attaches and separates the ultra-thin pellicle that protects the circuit board to reduce defects in the extreme ultraviolet semiconductor process.

Former senior researcher independently developed ‘automatic mixing adhesive application technology’, a core technology related to this equipment.

Choi Soo-young, a small business award winner, ANH Structures, Inc., developed the first ‘linerless composite cryogenic propellant tank’ in Korea.

The liner is a structure that serves as a mold to secure the airtightness of the tank and laminate the composite material.

Team leader Choi was recognized for his contribution to the development of the domestic space industry by successfully reducing the weight by more than 23% compared to the existing metal tank, enabling the weight to be secured for the satellite launch vehicle.

In addition, Lee Hyung-eun, LG Innotek Research Fellow, Cho Young-eun, LS Cable’s Senior Researcher, and Kim Kyung-hee, CEO of Aquacell were selected as the first half recipients of the Korea Engineer Award for Women in the first half.

LG Innotek Research Fellow Lee Hyeong-eui succeeded in mass-producing nano polycrystalline thermoelectric module that maintains power generation performance even in environments with severe shaking and temperature of 200℃.

In addition, it was evaluated that it strengthened the competitiveness of the domestic shipbuilding industry as it succeeded in ‘large-area’ to make a thermoelectric module larger by using a metal substrate, and might be installed on a ship engine.

Young-eun Cho, senior researcher at LS Cable, developed an evaluation technology that can predict the performance of insulation materials, a core material for power cables, and established major performance indicators, and succeeded in commercializing 500 kilovolt (kV) class ultra-high voltage power cables.

It has the highest voltage rating among commercialized power cables and was designated as a national core technology in 2019.

Aquacell CEO Kim Kyung-hee has developed a deodorizer that removes odors by electrolysis of salt water without harmful chemicals.

Through this, the operating cost was reduced by more than 30% compared to the existing one, contributing to the improvement of the competitiveness of the domestic environmental industry.
