The former President of the Republic, Danilo Medina called for “reflection and unity” in the face of the increase in criminal and violent acts registered in the country in recent weeks.
“Our country and our citizenship they need peace, serenity, calm and stop living in fear. They need to regain confidence and calm, and For this, the collaboration of all is urgent, absolutely everyone. For this reason, as stars that you are, today I want to ask each of you and all the PLD supporters who listen to me just one thing: to be, at all times and places, an example of harmony, respect and love for others,” said the president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
Medina expressed that he believes in the ability of the Dominican people to overcome adversity and therefore he sent “sow optimism to improve the conditions that Dominican society lives today.
“Let us remind everyone who wants to listen to us that our country and our people are much bigger and more powerful than any crisis and any tragedy. That a few violent people will never be able to tarnish the good name of an entire happy, hardworking and hospitable people. Let’s go out there to bring peace, hope and union. Let’s do good whenever we have the opportunity to do it…because that is what Professor Juan Bosch would do,” added Medina.
The former president’s statements occurred during a swearing-in ceremony where a total of 19,350 people from the municipality of Santo Domingo Norte became “new members” of the PLD in the sports center of Lost Sheet.
The former president indicated, before pronouncing the central words of the act, that he was not going to give a “political speech”, because the general secretary of the former ruling party, Charlie Mariotti, had already taken care of that and that he would take advantage of the time to give a “message very important”.
