On the initiative of the Bar of Guinea and the association Afrique droit, the Guinean lawyers have just completed a five (5) day training course in Conakry. This training aims to strengthen the capacities of participants in the profession of lawyer in order to enable them to practice better. Said training was closed yesterday, Friday June 10, 2022, on a note of satisfaction from all parties. All (organizers, trainers and participants) agree that the debates were enriching, reports a journalist that Guineematin.com had dispatched on the spot.
This training took place from June 6 to 10, 2022. And, during this meeting to share experiences, French and Guinean trainers exchanged with Guinean lawyers around the practices of the legal profession in Guinea and in France. They addressed several topics including the professional civil liability of lawyers and professional insurance, the guiding principles of criminal proceedings and practice management.
At the end of this meeting, Me Djibril Kouyaté, President of the Council of the National Bar Association of Guinea, was delighted with the results obtained and the recommendations made to enable Guinea to have quality justice.

“Throughout these five days, we discussed our profession and its practices. These debates, oh so enriching, allowed us to remove the gray areas in the exercise of our various legal and judicial activities. We discussed a lot, what might be more normal, because the profession of lawyer is above all a profession of listening. And, you proved it throughout this training session. I am delighted with the results obtained and the recommendations that will enable us, on the one hand, to improve; and, on the other hand, to contribute effectively, as auxiliaries of justice, to the development of quality justice, a guarantee of peace and a factor in the development of a country. We learned a lot of things, we challenged ourselves. The information received should guide us every day in the practice of our profession. Now, place to practice, convinced that we are more seasoned than in the past, ”said Me Djibril Kouyaté.
For his part, Me Philippe Mialet, member of the association Afrique droit and trainer at this meeting, suggested that continuing education conditions the future of the legal profession.

“This continuing education in Guinea, as in France, is not acquired on the benches of the faculty. It can only be that which results from experience and permanent confrontation, starting with oneself in moments of loneliness and sometimes discouragement. It is that of the hard work on the file, the stress of the hearing, the conviction of the judge that it is necessary to conquer. It is still the one who brings these great moments of happiness giving the feeling of a job well done, but above all of having been useful to his client and to society as a whole. Undoubtedly, the continuing education of the lawyer determines the future of our profession. Because, it must be kept in mind that competence is the essential condition for the development of the clientele; and, beyond that, of the very existence of the independent lawyer”, indicated Me Philippe Mialet.
Very pleased with the quality of this training, Me Halimatou Camara, lawyer at the bar of Guinea, indicated that a well-trained lawyer becomes a lookout for freedoms.

“This training is welcome, especially since in terms of practice I think that in Guinea we are not the best example. So we will have to improve our practices. It’s not mimicry, but it’s really the improvement of our practices so that the profession is exercised in a much more professional way. That we can ensure that the lawyer becomes a major player in the penal chain, a major player in justice who can bring regarding positive change. So, it is clearly important that a lawyer who is well trained becomes a watchdog of freedoms. And that is extremely important in our country which, for a long time, has not been an example of the rule of law either. So, you have to work on all these factors; and, when a lawyer is well trained, it is sure that he becomes a lookout for freedoms”, said Me Halimatou Camara.
For her part, Irène Marie Hadjimalis, Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, paid tribute to all the actors who took part in this training session. She also expressed the hope that this seminar will have a positive impact on the practice of the legal profession in Guinea.
