Focus on your wellness

“Well-being is something subjective, because each person can attribute the meaning that is relevant to them. There is physical, emotional, mental, social, economic, work-related, etc. It is something very individual, but it can be summed up in that well-being is being right”.

The comment is from Ángela Ruiz, a nurse at the University of Caldas, today a health consultant. She celebrates the Global Wellness Day or World Wellness Day, which is commemorated every year on the second Saturday of June.

The specialist said that this initiative, which was born in 2012 in Turkey, now has the motto “A day that can change the rest of your life” and aims to put 7 manifestos into context, this to improve life itself and in community:

1. Walk for an hour.

2. Drink enough water.

3. Do not use plastic bottles.

4. Eat organic food

5. Do a good deed.

6. Have dinner as a family.

7. Go to sleep before 10:00 pm

The professional insists that well-being is a matter of focus and intention and that it is closely related to happiness and health. Ruiz spoke of some fundamental vital spheres to reach that fullness:

of the physical

“The most important thing is to be connected with the physical body. It is listening to the body’s signals and realizing how it connects with the mental and emotional. Sport and the way we eat come into play here.”

the mental

“Thought and emotion are two sides of the same coin, but one is automatic and the other is rational. It is up to each person how they live the moments and how they affect them.”

For the economic

“Well-being also has to do with how I am and how I live. Everything that has to do with material things, things related to work, studies, everything you have. But before that material, the human being is individual and is regarding relationships. Before prioritizing the material, the individual and the relationship must be prioritized. They taught us to have and we forgot to be and that is a mistake we have made”.

touching the social

“At this level we might talk regarding environmental awareness, regarding serving and helping others. And that would lead us to spiritual well-being, to how crucial transcendence is.”

of spirituality

“This is complementary and has to do with how I am in relation to everything. This aspect should not be confused with religiosity, since that is already a completely different approach.”

Religiosity

“It’s something cultural, often imposed. If that religiosity gives you peace and doesn’t prevent you from relating to others, it’s fine. What’s harmful comes when instead of uniting us, it distances us. Sometimes it’s a conversation, like politics, which is very difficult to have.”
