“Ballet pour tous” attracts more than 20,000 people to Zurich

Wagner’s opera ‘The Flying Dutchman’ and the ballet ‘Sleeping Beauty’, presented Friday and Saturday in Zurich, attracted more than 20,000 spectators, according to the Zurich Opera. The latter followed the performances on a giant screen and on the internet.

On Saturday, around 12,000 people went to Sechseläutenplatz to watch the free live broadcast from inside the opera house of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, according to the institution’s press release. In addition, 5,500 spectators followed the performance online via a livestream.

The day before, some 3,000 people had gathered in the same place to watch a recording of Wagner’s play in a staging by the artistic director of the Zurich Opera Andreas Homoki dating from 2013.

This was the 8th edition of the ‘Opera and Ballet for All’ series of events. The next edition will take place on June 17, 2023. Gaetano Donizetti’s classic opera ‘Don Pasquale’ will be on view in a staging by German Christof Loy.
