On Friday, US President Joe Biden and 19 leaders of Latin American and Karenian countries signed a long-awaited declaration to expand legal pathways for immigrants and refugees and provide new funding to help countries host them.
“All of us sign commitments that recognize the challenges we all face and the responsibility that affects all of our nations,” Biden said as he joined a group of regional leaders to sign the so-called Los Angeles Declaration.
Among the signatories to the agreement, which was announced on the last day of the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, were America, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, four countries whose commitment was in doubt following their leaders boycotted the summit due to the exclusion of many countries it considered undemocratic. .
“Our economic future depends on each other,” the US president said.
