Saskatchewan unemployment rate down

By way of comparison, it was 6.1% on the same date in 2021 and 5.5% in April 2022.

The average unemployment rate in the country is 5.1%.

Saskatchewan’s economy on track with strong job gains and low unemployment said in a press release the Minister of Immigration and Skills Training, Jeremy Harrison.

During the month of May, Saskatchewan saw the creation of 19,800 new jobs, an increase of 3.5% compared to May 2021.

Over the past year, the accommodation and food service industry generated 6,400 new jobs. There were 5,400 in the construction industry and 4,700 in health care and social assistance.

In May 2022, Saskatchewan had approximately 578,100 jobs, surpassing its pre-pandemic level of 574,100 in February 2020.

According to a recent report by Conference Board of CanadaSaskatchewan is expected to see growth in its START of 7.9% in 2022, well above the national average of 4.0%.
