The American group Huy Fong, one of the world’s largest producers in the Asian hot sauce market, admits to having to anticipate a major shortage of Sriracha, its flagship sauce.
“Unfortunately, we can confirm that there is an unprecedented shortage of our products”, the company said in a statement. “We are still working to resolve this issue which was caused by several events including an unexpected crop failure of the spring chili crop.”
Fans of the sauce are not taking this news lightly. In the United States, some have decided to stock up in mass in order to face this event.
It is unclear how long this shortage will last but Huy Fong has already announced that he does not plan to deliver Sriracha sauce until next September.
