The Swiss Haute Horlogerie Manufacture Audemars Piguet joins forces for the third time with the Italian jewelry designer Carolina Bucci to unveil a 34mm limited edition Royal Oak Selfwinding black ceramic. The watch is also part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak. This special timepiece houses a mirror-effect dial that pays homage to the iconic Tapestry design. Today, wishing to pay homage to the Royal Oak, Carolina Bucci has imagined a new piece dressed in black ceramic in order to let the multicolored reflection of the dial fully express itself, creating a surprise effect and plays of light on the outside. infinite.
« I wanted to create a rainbow in the most unlikely place, a bit like in town when you observe an oily reflection on the surface of a puddle. So here we have all the colors of the spectrum on a completely black background, which represents the absence of color “, said Carolina Bucci in a press release. Indeed, the jewelry designer has this time decided to work on contrasts. The dial, which appears black at first glance, actually reveals a multicolored spectrum which creates a Tapestry effect constantly moving with the light. In order to achieve this result, a sapphire plate adorned with small squares obtained by microstructuring, is affixed to the brass plate of the dial, thus creating multicolored plays of light. A golden metallization, developed especially for the occasion, is also applied to the back of the sapphire plate to generate a mirror effect and enhance the light inside the dial. The distribution of iridescent colors varies from one dial to another, making each of them unique. This limited edition comes with a box also designed by Carolina Bucci. For the occasion, the jewelry designer wanted to take up the Tapestry pattern in relief, thus paying homage to the 1972 classic down to the smallest detail.
The aesthetics of this timepiece, entirely designed in black ceramic, is illuminated by hexagonal rose gold screws that secure the bezel and provide a refined contrast. All the components of the case and bracelet feature the Manufacture’s recognizable finishes, alternating satin-finishing and polishing for endless plays of light. The titanium and sapphire caseback adorned with the “Limited Edition Carolina Bucci” engraving reveals Caliber 5800, equipped with hour, minute, second and date functions. Echoing the screws, indexes and hands, the 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight features elegant micro-blasted, polished and satin-brushed finishes. On the dial, the AP monogram has disappeared to leave only the long Audemars Piguet signature which has been engraved on the surface of the sapphire plate and covered with white lacquer due to the singularity of the dial designed by Carolina Bucci.
The Royal Oak Automatic 34 mm, in limited edition, will seduce with its sobriety and discreet refinement. It is designed for both men and women. The Royal Oak Selfwinding watch is available exclusively at Audemars Piguet and AP Houses boutiques.
