“The tumor is gone”… Monoclonal antibody therapy opens the door to cancer-fighting [팩트매터]

hello!!

The picture you see is a cancer cell.

It has been a problem that has plagued people for thousands of years.

But in the new study you see here, the researchers found the world’s first treatment, which completely eliminated cancer in all participants.

This means that all patients in the study are recovering.

Without chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery.

Although it was a relatively small study, the results were encouraging and, according to the lead researcher, opened up new possibilities for fighting cancer.

It can also be rapidly expanded to treat stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, and bladder cancer.

Now let’s take a closer look at the research.

Four days ago, a paper was published in the ‘New England Journal of Medicine’, and it was the world’s first complete removal of cancer from all clinical patients suffering from advanced rectal cancer.

The study you are seeing on the screen can also be read on the Internet, and the title is ‘PD-1 Blockade for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer with Mismatch Repair Defect’.

The study, led by researchers at the Sloan-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center in New York, was testing the potential of monoclonal antibody therapy as a treatment for people with advanced rectal cancer.

Specifically, there were 12 clinical participants, with an average age of 54 years and 62% being women.

All of these patients had stage 2 or 3 rectal adenocarcinoma with inconsistent repair defects.

Usually, in these cases, patients have to undergo chemotherapy, radiation therapy, oncology surgery, or, in severe cases, a stoma bag.

However, participants in this study did not receive any of these.

Instead, they received treatment with a specific type of monoclonal antibody once every three weeks for six months.

The results of the study showed that all patients experienced a clinical response, and their symptoms began to improve, leading to the complete disappearance of tumors in advanced cancer.
