The people of Fayoum Governorate were in a state of shock and anxiety, following finding thousands of donkey skeletons following they were skinned and their meat was taken. They were found dumped in the desert area near the intersection of the western and regional Assiut roads in the area of the village of Fanous, which is affiliated to the center of Tamiya.
The horrific incident necessitated a quick action from the governor of Fayoum, Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, who directed immediate dealing with the skeletons of donkeys, which turned out to be complete, skinless bodies in a state of complete decomposition and ordered to reveal the circumstances of the incident.
The Governor of Fayoum also directed the formation of a committee of officials from the directorates of veterinary medicine, health, catering and the environment department in the General Court of Fayoum Governorate, to inspect restaurants and markets to take samples of meat and send them to specialized laboratories, as a precautionary measure to preserve the health of citizens.
