It was confirmed that Lee Jae-myung, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, supported the National Defense Commission as the first choice in relation to the allocation of the standing committee for the activities of the National Assembly.
According to a Democratic Party official on the 9th, Rep. Lee selected the 1st National Defense Committee, 2nd Foreign Unification Committee, and 3rd Priority Environment and Labor Committee as standing committees that he would like to be active in the National Assembly in the second half of the 21st century.
In a phone call with the New Daily, this official said, “If you are preparing for a national leader, you should know regarding defense-related content.
Earlier, Rep. Jae-myung Lee’s office said that it had submitted a list of desired standing committees to the party, but did not disclose the exact standing committee.
However, a member of the Democratic Party who is classified as a close aide to lawmaker Lee said in a call to this newspaper, “(Rep. Lee’s) basic stance is that he will not go to the popular standing committee.”
Rep. Lee said, “The purpose is not to take away the popular standing committee that lawmakers want to go to.” added.
In fact, the National Defense Commission chosen by Rep. Lee is a standing committee that lawmakers are reluctant to pursue because it is not helpful in managing the constituency.
In the political circles, speculation was raised that Rep. Lee was a lawyer and served as the mayor of Seongnam and governor of Gyeonggi Province in turn, so he would choose the Judiciary Committee or the Ministry of Public Administration and Security using his professionalism.
However, the police are investigating the allegation of bribery of Seongnam FC donations surrounding Rep. Lee and the misappropriation of his wife Kim Hye-kyung’s corporate card. It has been pointed out that there is a risk of a ‘conflict of interest’ for Rep. Lee to take over the Administrative and Judiciary Committee, which have the National Police Agency and the Prosecutor’s Office as competent agencies, respectively.
An official from People’s Power said, “The fact that Rep. Jae-myung Lee, who is involved in many crimes, belongs to a standing committee close to the decision of the law is in itself entrusting fish to the cat. pinched
