TOURISM. Tourisme Drummondville launched the summer tourist season on Thursday, inviting citizens from here and elsewhere to discover the region’s attractions. The festival Drummond in beer gets the ball rolling, as a record number of microbreweries join the party.
Diversity is key for the fourth edition of Drummond in beer, which begins Thursday evening. Festival-goers can taste the products of more than 25 microbreweries, while discovering six musical groups. There is also a children’s area and entertainment at the Woodyatt Park site.
The president of the festival, Éric Lauzon-Duhaime, is delighted to be able to hold such an event, following a forced break of two years. “Yesterday when I saw that the site was up, I felt a sense of pride. We wanted to create a festive and unifying atmosphere. It succeeded! We have all worked very hard to offer a quality festival to Drummondville residents. We just have to cross our fingers so that the weather conditions are on our side,” he said.
The latter adds that the passports sold out very quickly in presale. “There was excitement. The pre-sale came with the official glass and it sold out within the estimated time frame. There were around 2,000. It allowed us to secure the festival.
This year, Drummond in beer decided to change the configuration of the site by directing the scene towards the brewers. Musical performances begin at 7 p.m. Note that tents have been set up so that festival-goers can take shelter in the event of a downpour.
The event continues until Saturday. The passport is $30 with a reusable Ecocup glass bearing the image of the event. Festival-goers can purchase daily tickets.
A colorful season
This summer, more than 200 places, activities, events and culinary experiences are to be discovered in the region. “With all of our entertainment centers, attractions, events, restaurants, hotels and campsites, there’s a way to have fun without stress or breaking the bank, rain or shine. We have the best of both worlds in Drummondville. There are not too many large crowds, no traffic jams and we are strategically located to welcome people who wish to discover southern Quebec”, mentions Yanick Gamelin, Director of Tourism and Major Events – SDED.
According to Tourisme Centre-du-Québec, the tourist season will be remarkable in the region. “We feel that many Quebecers have adopted the regions of Quebec to enjoy their summer vacations and the Centre-du-Québec is one of these new summer destinations, underlines the marketing director, Céline Rousseau. The trend of local getaways favors the region, considering the large population pool around. As the gateway to the region, Drummondville does a good job of attracting tourists and day trippers who come to visit Centre-du-Québec.”
Remember that it is always possible to buy discount passports in order to take advantage of the region’s attractions. A new tourist map is also available free of charge at the tourist information office.
