The Committee on Foreign Relations in US SenateOn Thursday, a draft law was issued to stop the Iranian marches. This came a day following a hearing before the committee on Syria, in which a number of speakers discussed the role of Iran and its proxies.
In the details, US Senator Bob Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced that the committee approved Law No. 6089 for stopping Iranian drones, with an amendment that seeks to prevent Tehran and any terrorist groups or militias allied with it from acquiring drones.
Preventing Iran from owning attack drones
He added in a statement, that the United States is intensifying its efforts to stop the drone program, noting that the draft resolution aims to prevent Iran and its loyal militias from acquiring attack marches.
He also continued that this draft resolution aims to hold Iran accountable for destabilizing the region.
Democratic Senator Bob Menendez pointed out that Iran is providing the Houthi militias with marches targeting Saudi Arabia and the UAE, stressing that Iran’s marches threaten the security of the United States and its allies.
He also added that Iran sponsored the attack with rallies on Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi last year.
He also stressed that this US approval comes as an important step forward in ensuring that US law stands up to Iranian aggression, and holds Tehran accountable for its destabilizing actions.
He also declared his hope to secure rapid passage of the bill in the Senate and the eventual activation of this bipartisan legislation into law.
Iran’s militias in Syria will pay a hellish price
After the session ended, Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath met with the Republican Senator and a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Mike Ronds, who warned that the militias affiliated with Iran in Syria would pay a hellish price, as he described it, if they attacked the American forces.
Ronds’ warning came in response to a question regarding the steps that the Senate will take to protect US forces in Syria, as he made it clear that the Senate will consult with the Ministry of Defense to follow up and ensure that it is provided with the resources and political guidance necessary to provide protection for American forces.
Senator Ronds’ words were in line with what was called the day before by Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, in an exclusive interview in Arabic, that the United States should take steps to contain Iran’s destabilizing behavior, and that the Biden administration should focus on supporting its allies in several ways to confront Iran’s proxies in the region And stress them to relieve their violence.
It is expected that the “stopping Iranian marches” bill will be passed in the Senate with a comfortable majority, as happened in the House of Representatives.
A new stage in the US relationship with Iran
It is noteworthy that US policy toward Iran entered a new phase weeks ago, which began with a clear shift in the position of US President Joe Biden and members of his government regarding Iranian activities in the Middle East and the world.
Sources from Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath confirmed that the new US position “distributes work” between Washington and its allies. Smuggling and arms transfers, while regional parties, especially Israel, are doing fieldwork to hit supply lines and disrupt the nuclear program.
It is noteworthy that this does not mean at all that the Biden administration is ready for a direct escalation in the Middle East, but rather seeks, according to sources in the American capital, to maintain stability as much as possible, and to control any possible escalation so that it does not turn into a wide crisis.
