Dell is announcing two new XPS 13 laptops. One of them is a hybrid ultraportable with a detachable screen that’s closer to the Surface Pro.
At CES last January, Dell presented the XPS 13 Plusand ultraportable taking up the main lines of the XPS 13 with a new design. Now, the brand is announcing an evolution of its flagship model with a 2022 update, as well as for its 2-in-1 version, the screen of which becomes detachable.
The XPS 13 updates
First, Dell has reduced the thickness and weight of its XPS 13 even further, making it the most compact ever. The manufacturer is now integrating Intel Core’s twelfth generation U-series processors, the Core i5-1230U and i7-1250U. However, this new XPS 13 will be less powerful than its big brother the Plus, which explains the price difference.
Dell adds human presence detection, integrates Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, LPDDR5-5200 RAM and PCIe 4.0 storage. Also, two new colors are available:Ciel » et « Ombre“. However, the screen does not evolve and always remains the same, namely a 13.4-inch format with a 16:10 ratio, with an FHD + or UHD + definition.
The number of connectors is reduced since the microSD port and the jack port disappear. A USB-A to USB-C dongle is always supplied with the computer to connect it to the two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports.
The 2-in-1 version also returns in 2022
Dell revamps its copy of the 2-in-1 version of the XPS 13 taking inspiration from what microsoft does with her Surface Pro. Great novelty, the screen is now detachable and this XPS 13 can become a real touch pad. It has a 3K screen with a size of 13 inches HDR400. The processors available will be the same as the new XPS mentioned above. This ultraportable can be used with a stylus (sold separately), its screen being touch-sensitive.
5G and the eSIM are present as an option, but we are also entitled to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Dell really designs this new model as a touch pad since in addition to the webcam (5 Mpx), there is a real 11 Mpx front camera that can record in 4K. The ports available are the same as on the XPS 13 2022, namely two Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The Dell XPS 13 2022 is already available in the US starting at $999, while the 2-in-1 version will arrive later this summer, price unknown. Regarding the availability of these laptops in France, we have no information yet.
