The Guarantee Court of Concepción accepted for processing a complaint for insults presented by the regional counselor Javier Sandoval, once morest the Governor of Bío Bío Rodrigo Diazlegal action that has already been notified to the regional authority.
The complaint stems from events that occurred on March 14, when a woman attacked Díaz in the middle of a meeting between the authority and opponents of the Rucalhue Hydroelectric Power Plant, and where the representative threw a bottle of water at him.
There were also four regional councilors at that meeting, including Javier Sandoval, whom Governor Diaz later accused of being behind this aggression, stating that his behavior is more similar to Hitler than to a Democrat; and accusing him of generating false accusations and inventing problems, something he called an attempted assassination of his image.
“I hold him personally responsible for any type of aggression or harm he may suffer. I believe that it is time for people who are anti-democratic, people who behave like true fascists and who try to build an escalation of aggression once morest me, to be isolated,” Rodrigo Díaz said.
Regional councilor files complaint for insults
The complaint for libel was filed on May 16 and admitted for processing in the Guarantee Court of Concepción. In it, it is requested that he be sentenced to the maximum of the penalties that the law establishes for these cases; this is minor imprisonment in its medium degree, plus a fine with costs.
Javier Sandoval stated that the insults to his person manifested on that occasion by the regional governor and reproduced by the media, demonstrate the inability to deal with the criticism of his management.
“With a set of unacceptable insults and disqualifications, which exceeded all limits. He crossed the red line in terms of reviling an opponentusing qualifiers that border on the unacceptable, such as treating us as fascists, such as the comparisons made with Hitler”
Javier Ahumada, lawyer representing Rodrigo Díaz, maintains that there was no crime, but a response to an attack.
“We are flat that this process is finished as soon as possible, collaborate with him. And we understand that there is no spirit of insult on the part of the governor, but simply a response to an attack, ”said the lawyer.
According to the regional councilor of the Equality Party, there should at least be a retraction of his words by the regional authority. However, he said that the important thing is that the truth be established.
