Welcome » Nintendo would develop a sequel to 1-2 Switch (and it would be very bad)
Do you remember 1-2 Switch, the party game launched with the Switch in 2017?
The game, developed by Nintendo, was a party game that invited us to use the abilities of joy-cons to play as a family, in mini-games that were often played without even watching TV.
It was an interesting concept, but with pretty thin content, and mini-games of uneven quality, it was pretty hard to justify paying full price for this title.
Many, not without reason, argued that 1-2 Switch would have been more popular had it been included with the console. But Nintendo surely did not regret the decision not to include the title for free, since it still sold 3.5 million copies (and we guess that the development costs were not particularly high).
The surprise, then, is that Nintendo still hasn’t launched a sequel to 1-2 Switch: following all, a party game that doesn’t cost too much to develop, and sells millions of copies, why s deprive of it?
If we trust the information shared by Fanbyte, Nintendo would have indeed developed a sequel; it’s just that players who tried it would have hated it, to the point where Nintendo doesn’t dare release the game.
Everybody’s 1-2 Switch a disappointment?
The sequel would be called Everybody’s 1-2 Switch. Why this title? Because the game might be played by up to 100 players at a time. We reassure you, no need to buy 100 joy-cons; the game would use cell phones as controllers, similar to Just Dance.
The idea behind Everybody’s 1-2 Switch was to make a sequel that doesn’t replace its predecessor, but offers a different experience. The Jackbox Party Pack series would have been cited as an example. Moreover, the game would take the form of a humorous game show, animated by an anthropomorphic horse.
Lots of good ideas, then. Boredom?
Gamers and families who were invited by Nintendo would have hated the experience. It would even have been necessary to insist that certain groups finish their games. Phew.
The game would have been considered boring and complicated, in short, the complete opposite of a good party game.
Still, Nintendo were confident; they would have even printed thousands of boxes for the title… but they don’t have a game to put in them.
What will happen next remains a mystery. Also according to Fanbyte, some would like to improve the game and release it as planned, while others are talking regarding offering it at a discount. Nintendo’s fear would be to tarnish their reputation with a mediocre title.
There is also talk of offering it as a bonus with the online subscription, hoping that the reception will be better if the game is “free”.
In any case, the situation is unusual (and interesting). But if Nintendo announces a direct in the next few weeks and they reveal Everybody’s 1-2 Switch, don’t get too excited; there is a good chance that the experience will be disappointing.
