The sprained foot, the screams on and following center court the dejected Alexander Zverevwho had to be taken off the field in a wheelchair: The horror injury to the German tennis star is one of the events of this year’s French Open that will be remembered.
Zverev is now back in his home country and had to have an operation on Tuesday. The intervention was “the best choice”, he writes on Instagram. The injury was more serious than initially hoped.
“Coming back stronger than ever”
“After another examination in Germany, we received confirmation that all three lateral ligaments in my right ankle were torn,” Zverev continued. Training is out of the question for at least a month. The plan of the world number 3 is still to be able to be back at the US Open at the end of August.
The aim of the operation is to ensure that all ligaments heal properly and that Zverev regains full stability in his ankle. The tennis ace gave a thumbs-up photo on his profile. “My rehab starts now and I will do whatever it takes to come back stronger than ever!” (cat)
