We didn’t expect it, but Face ID took advantage of a nice new feature with iOS 16.
Face ID has not been updated since iOS 15.4, released in March 2022, with the feature’s compatibility with masks. Since then, no more updates have come to improve the system. At least, until iOS 16. Without warning, Apple has brought a little novelty that may seem anecdotal to its unlocking system, but which will probably be useful for some users.
In a page listing the list of new features brought by iOS 16, we learn as well as Face ID “now works in landscape mode on supported iPhone models”. No more information from Apple, and therefore difficult to know which iPhones are compatible with the novelty.
One thing is certain: not all iPhones capable of running iOS 16 will be able to support Face ID in landscape format.
The late arrival of Face ID compatibility in landscape orientation on the iPhone is rather surprising, especially since the iPad Pro can be unlocked for a long time in this direction. On iPhone, it has always been necessary to hold it in portrait format for Face ID to work…
