When visiting an armaments company in south-eastern Poland, Prime Minister Morawiecki praises the weapons from domestic production. He also announces the signing of a treaty for arms exports to the war-torn neighboring country.
According to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Poland is currently signing a comprehensive agreement to supply arms to Ukraine. It is “one of the largest, if not the largest arms export contract in the past thirty years,” said Morawiecki during a visit to the armaments company Huta Stalowa Wola in the south-east of the country. Morawiecki added that Polish weapons are very important for the combat zones in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine will receive part of the funds for the purchase from the EU and pay part of it itself.
The Prime Minister of Poland did not say what kind of weapons it is exactly and what the scope of the arms deal is. However, when making the announcement to the press, he and Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak posed in front of a series of Krab self-propelled howitzers manufactured in Stalowa Wola. At the same time, Morawiecki’s law firm tweeted a picture of the self-propelled howitzer with an overview of its properties. The maximum firing range of the heavy weapon is 40 kilometers, it can fire 6 times in one minute.
Morawiecki also said that the Krab self-propelled howitzer, along with the Polish-made Piorun rockets and the Grot assault rifle, are among the types of weapons that Poland is currently most requested to sell. “We sell them because we know they are essential on the modern battlefield.” A few days ago, the business daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported that Poland intends to sell Ukraine more than 50 Krab self-propelled howitzers. According to the newspaper, the contract is worth the equivalent of 655 million euros. The government has not confirmed this information.
