When the mercury leaks, do not touch it directly. (Picture / Reprinted from the Press Room)
It’s really scary! A 7-year-old boy in mainland China saw hot dumplings on the table one day. He took out a thermometer at home and was curious to help the dumplings “measure the temperature”. The glass body of the thermometer shattered on the spot, and the mercury leaked directly into the dumpling filling, which caused the grandmother to accidentally eat it and almost died of poisoning. The reason why the grandma was able to save her life was that the boy’s father gave first aid to the boy. He asked the old man to “swallow the egg” to neutralize the toxicity of mercury and successfully save the grandmother’s life.
According to reports from Lu media such as Beiqing.com, there was a naughty boy in Shenzhen, mainland China. He took out the mercury thermometer that his family usually used, and kept poking the dumplings with a metal probe, thinking that he might help the hot dumplings that were just served on the table. “Measure the body temperature”, but he didn’t hold one of them properly, and he smashed the glass thermometer, causing part of the mercury to leak into the dumpling filling and dumpling skin.
The little boy who broke the thermometer was so frightened on the spot that he didn’t know what to do, so he threw the broken thermometer and fled. Later, the boy’s grandmother saw that there were a few dumplings left on the table, and ate them without thinking. Later, following eating the second dumpling, I bit a hard object in my mouth, only to find that it was the metal probe of the thermometer, and I suspected that I had eaten the mercury in the thermometer.
Later, when the boy’s father found out, he immediately checked the mother’s oral mucosa to see if it was scratched. Afterwards, he hurriedly asked his mother to swallow a raw egg in an attempt to neutralize the toxicity. He quickly opened the window for ventilation, and quickly bought time to send the old mother to the hospital for emergency gastric lavage. And because the boy’s father should be suitable for the first time, he successfully saved his mother’s life, and was also praised by the doctor in the emergency room, “Well done!”
The doctor reminds that if someone accidentally eats mercury, they can drink some milk or egg white to neutralize the toxicity. When cleaning up mercury, you should wear gloves, use a damp cotton swab to collect the mercury into an airtight bottle, mark it as “mercury waste”, and store it in toxic waste instead of littering. The room with the broken mercury thermometer cannot be occupied for the time being, and the windows must be opened for ventilation for more than 24 hours before people enter the room for activities.
