Cassidy had been in the role since February 2017 and went 245-108-46 in 399 games behind the Bruins bench.

In his second season in Boston, he led his team to the Stanley Cup Finals. The following season, he won the Jack-Adams Trophy.

“After 14 years working with Bruce, this is an extremely difficult decision to make,” said general manager Don Sweeney.

“Bruce has been a fantastic head coach and has helped this team win many games and have had great success,” added team president Cam Neely.
