(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kwon Hoon = Tiger Woods (USA) has been found to have rejected an offer of $1 billion (regarding 1.25 trillion won) to join Liv Golf, which is backed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.
Greg Norman (Australia), who leads Liv Golf, said in an interview with the Washington Post on the 7th (Korean time), “I contacted Woods and we talked regarding the amount of the 9-digit number with the high front row.”
Norman’s ‘amount of 9 digits with a high leading digit’ refers to money that can reach up to $900 million.
Norman said it was ‘a huge amount of money’.
Other media outlets, such as Yahoo Sports, interpreted the news as saying that Liv Golf offered Woods a “billion dollar offer.”
If Norman’s statement is true, it means that Woods has shed a large sum of money, which is close to 10 times the total prize money he has earned on the PGA Tour, and more than half of his fortune.
Woods earned $120 million on the PGA Tour.
Woods is said to have amassed a fortune of less than $2 billion in his lifetime.
Woods has announced on several occasions in public that he will be committed to the PGA Tour and that he will never join Liv Golf.
Liv Golf, which founded a new golf tour that competes with the PGA Tour, has attracted famous players with a large down payment.
There were also reports that Liv Golf paid Dustin Johnson (USA) $100 million (regarding 125.5 billion won) and Phil Mickelson (USA) $30 million (regarding 37.7 billion won).
However, the specific amount of the contract was not confirmed.
Norman downplayed Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), who is outspokenly opposed to rib golf, as “indoctrinated by PGA Tour leaders.”

Regarding the human rights abuses by the Saudi Arabian government, Norman said, “My priority is golf,” and “I don’t want to get involved in anything other than golf.”
