Samsung Display’s OLED to be installed in Taiwanese PC makers’ gaming laptops

Samsung Display announced on the 7th that it will begin mass production of OLED (organic light emitting diode) panels for laptops that support a refresh rate of 240Hz for the first time in the world.

The screen refresh rate is a number indicating the number of screens that can be expressed in one second. The higher the refresh rate, the faster the screen change, so you can enjoy natural picture quality. High refresh rate displays are especially popular with first-person shooter (FPS) gamers, where it is important to recognize the screen as quickly as possible while providing a seamless picture.

Samsung Display explained that this product was installed on the screen of the 15.6-inch gaming laptop ‘Raider GE67 HX’ recently unveiled by Taiwanese PC maker MSI.

The OLED panel for Samsung notebooks realized wide color reproduction, high contrast ratio, near-perfect black, and low blue light.

Recently, in the case of gaming laptops, high performance that affects game play such as response speed and refresh rate along with picture quality is required, and preference for OLED that can implement such performance is increasing.

“The 240Hz OLED is a product that meets the demands of consumers who have been waiting for a high refresh rate OLED notebook,” said Baek Ji-ho, head of Samsung Display’s small and medium-sized display strategy marketing department (Vice President). It will be a game changer.”
