Morocco re-elected to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child for a 3rd consecutive term

The Kingdom of Morocco was re-elected on Monday in New York for a third consecutive term (2023-2027) as a member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, in the person of Hynd Ayoubi Idrissi, during the elections held on the occasion of the 19th Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In the running with thirteen other candidates for the nine vacant seats on the said Committee, Ms. Hynd Ayoubi Idrissi was elected in the first round with 137 votes, thanks to a campaign which mobilized the entire diplomatic apparatus of Morocco, indicated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad.

This success testifies to the credibility enjoyed by the Kingdom’s efforts in terms of the protection, respect and promotion of human rights, in particular those of the child, to which King Mohammed VI pays particular high attention. , underlines the minister in a press release.

The outcome of this candidacy once once more illustrates the confidence of the international community in the competence and expertise that Morocco brings to the UN human rights system, as well as the relevance of the Kingdom’s strategy. aiming, in accordance with royal guidelines, to consolidate its presence within the United Nations and other international organizations, according to the same source.

A doctor of human rights, university professor and international consultant in the field of children’s rights, the Moroccan expert succeeded, during her first two terms of office, in winning the esteem of her counterparts and the States Parties thanks to his substantial contribution to the work of the Committee and his proven commitment to fulfilling his mandate, in particular in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This new mandate will enable the Moroccan expert to continue the work she has begun in favor of strengthening the integrality and transversality of the rights of the Child, the monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and working methods of the Committee, added the ministry.

The Committee on the Rights of the Child is an independent international body responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified treaty among international human rights legal instruments.

It is made up of eighteen independent experts of high character and with recognized experience in the field of Children’s Rights. Its members are elected for a renewable four-year term.
