A power failure affected the second district of Vienna on Monday evening and thus both the Wurstelprater and the Ernst Happel Stadium. As the Wiener Netze announced, the power supply was restored at least in these two places following an hour. However, the floodlights in the stadium needed some time to go back up, which further delayed the game in the Nations League between Austria and Denmark.
A total of 1,500 households were affected, not all of whom had electricity once more. On average, due to the so-called double supply in Vienna, it only takes regarding 1.5 hours to get such failures under control once more. The blackout began shortly following 8 p.m. The situation was tricky because rides in the Prater were also affected by the power outage. However, those affected should have been brought back down to the valley relatively quickly, for example by means of emergency power generators. Because the Viennese professional fire brigade was not called to the Wurstelprater, as a spokesman said at the request of the APA. Only in the stadium were people released from an elevator.
The Viennese professional rescue service also did not know of any rescue operations or the care of the injured in the evening. However, social media posts featured photos of people stuck in rides.
