Swiss design is on display in Milan from June 6 to 12. Federal Councilor Alain Berset was in the Lombard capital to promote the work of young Swiss designers concerned regarding the impact of technological, social and environmental changes.
“Design provides answers to the questions with which shortage confronts us,” said Alain Berset on Monday, according to the text of his speech at the “House of Switzerland».
This search for innovation and ideas characterizes Swiss creation, said the Minister. Innovative, original and of very high quality, it “keeps its promises”, far from planned obsolescence. “Swiss design thus rejects – discreetly but clearly – the inflationary concept of design in recent years,” said Berset.
Smart or durable objects
Until mid-June, as part of Milan Design Week, the “House of Switzerland” took up residence in the building of the “Casa degli Artisti”, a center of artistic creation. She presents the work of a new generation of Swiss designers.
Selected by Pro Helvetia, the projects for this edition revolve around the question “how are living spaces evolving to adapt to our constantly changing society?” In addition to a smart roaster or furniture made from brewery waste, there is an extendable stool that can be transformed into a bench or a hand-woven carbon fiber screen.
