Diriyah, June 6 / WAM / The Diriyah Biennial Foundation announced the holding of the first session of the Islamic Arts Biennial at the Western Pilgrims Hall at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during the period from January 23 to April 23, 2023 AD, under the supervision of an international team of specialists in various fields. Technical fields, under the title “first house”.

The Saudi Press Agency / SPA / said that this event is the first Biennale of Islamic Arts in the world, and it will be held in the western tents adjacent to the Pilgrims Hall, which was designed by the architectural company SOM in 1981, and at the time won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1983.

She added that the site will contain a section extending over an area of ​​70,000 square meters, which was specially established to include facilities dedicated to hosting the activities of the Biennale, including exhibition halls, theatre, mosque, art workshops, and seminar rooms in which the various activities of the Biennale’s cultural program will be held, in addition to a variety of shops and cafes. and restaurants.

She stated that the Biennale comes in two interrelated parts; One is internal and the other is external, presenting a harmonious dialogue between the sacred sites and the rituals of worship that inspire artists to photograph and translate them, and document their reflections on the conscience of the individual and the group. The previous Western pilgrims, the external installation artworks will be unique, and their production will be inspired by the importance of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and the uniqueness of the Kaaba as “the first house built for people.” A variety of contemporary artworks and historical collectibles will be displayed, the most important of which will be in two separate wings containing: Antiques from the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
