The Russian military says it has destroyed tanks and other equipment delivered to Ukraine by the West in a series of rocket attacks on Kyiv. There was initially no confirmation from the Ukrainian side.
The Ministry of Defense in Moscow said on Telegram on Sunday that high-precision long-range air-to-surface missiles had been used. The attacks on the outskirts of Kyiv destroyed T-72 tanks supplied by Eastern European countries and other armored vehicles. They were said to be in a car repair building.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Russian rockets had fallen in the Darnyzki and Dniprovsky districts early on Sunday morning. Among other things, state railway facilities were hit, said Serhiy Leshchenko, an adviser in the office of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Telegram.
The cruise missiles were apparently fired from a Tu-95 fighter-bomber over the Caspian Sea, the high command of the Ukrainian air force said. Anti-aircraft units shot down a missile.
