A huge hole right next to the sidewalk, and surprised, even shocked onlookers. This late Saturday followingnoon, Avenue de la Couronne (Ixelles) experienced a road collapse just in front of the Elzenhof, the Dutch-speaking cultural center.
A resident of the neighborhood for 13 years, Fabienne remains amazed at the hole with her daughters: “I’ve never seen that, it’s very impressive”. “It’s scary, pursues his daughter. Luckily no one was hurt.”
In fact, the incident caused no casualties. According to police estimates, the hole is regarding one square meter. A vehicle became stuck, and was freed by hand. Around 7 p.m., Vivaqua and Sibelga have already intervened. “It was a leak from an apartment drain. But it’s not sure. The ground has been dug”estimates an agent on the spot.
A safety device was therefore put in place around the hole with warning tapes and cones. Traffic remains accessible in both directions, but vehicles heading towards the center must now give way and drive around the obstacle. The Brussels-Ixelles police zone does not currently know the duration of the intervention and the date of the reopening of the roads.
