North Korea fired several unconfirmed ballistic missiles into the East Sea on the 5th. It is the third provocation since the inauguration of the Yun Seok-yeol government and the 18th armed protest this year alone.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said, “We have detected eight short-range ballistic missiles fired from the Sunan area in Pyongyang.” The Joint Chiefs of Staff is currently analyzing specifications such as the range and altitude of North Korean ballistic missiles launched using South Korean and US intelligence assets.

It is analyzed that the North Korean ballistic missile provocation on this day is a strong counter-response in that it took place the day following the ROK and US navies completed the combined training of an aircraft carrier strike group in the high seas southeast of Okinawa, Japan.

From the 2nd to the previous day, the Navy conducted a combined exercise with the US Navy’s ‘Ronald Reagan’ carrier group in the high seas southeast of Okinawa, Japan. It is the first time in four years and seven months since November 2017 that a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier has been mobilized for a joint exercise between the ROK and U.S. forces.

The Navy put large transport ships ‘Marado’ (14,500 ton class), destroyers ‘Sejong the Great’ (7600 ton class), ‘Munmu the Great’ (4400 ton class), and naval operations helicopter ‘Lynx’ for training.

The US military includes the nuclear-powered carrier ‘Reagan’ (100,000 ton class), the cruiser ‘Entitum’ (9800 ton class), the destroyer ‘Benfold’ (6900 ton class), the logistics support ship ‘Bighorn’, and the MH-60R ‘Seahawk’ helicopter and F /A-18 ‘Super Hornet’ fighter jets were also there.
