To strengthen the national industry, Al-Mobayed explained that prosthetics are among the integrative disciplines that work with rehabilitative, engineering and administrative disciplines. The prosthetics specialist, Haifa Al-Ghamdi, stated that the prosthetic limb is installed following amputation, which has many causes, including car accidents, neglect of diabetes, or work accidents, noting that there are limbs that are manufactured by specialists, and assembly ones, all of which require high quality. She said: The limbs are manufactured by 50% by the association’s specialists, and 50% by the manufacturer, and the manufacture of the prosthesis requires a period of no less than two weeks, and the patient is subjected to intensive treatment following installing the limb, headed by a rehabilitation consultant, in addition to other rehabilitation specialties such as treatment The natural, functional, professional and psychological aspect of the patient, noting that 70 limbs are manufactured annually in the association.

Disability issues

The CEO of Efaa Association, Rana Taiba, indicated that the association is concerned with disability issues, starting with detection and diagnosis, identifying the types and severity of disabilities, and the detailed needs of each family and each injured person. For cases benefiting from the programs, and then comes the role of the department for prosthetics and splints, for people with deformities, spinal injuries, or those who cannot use the upper or lower extremities properly, pointing to the diversity of services provided in this section, starting from the diagnosis stage, to the stage of Manufacturing, production, tip presentation, and follow-up to ensure stabilization of the condition following receiving treatment.

She indicated that the association takes into account with patients the social, economic, psychological, and therapeutic dimension, noting that the association is distinguished by providing free services from the exemption clause, and this item is an added value to the segment benefiting from the association’s programs, as it is directed to all cases that are unable to pay the fees.

She pointed out that the association, for 21 years, has aimed to provide basic care for people with motor disabilities, which may be accompanied by other disabilities, including mental and sensory, and the number of beneficiaries varies, depending on the services provided, as the association provides day care services for male and female students from two to 35 years old During which 270 male and female students are served annually, while the number of beneficiaries is 3,000.
