New series of US sanctions targeting five Russian personalities

The United States announced on Thursday a new series of sanctions once morest Russian personalities, because of the military offensive of Russia in Ukraine, launched on February 24 last.

The US Treasury, State Department and Commerce Department have sanctioned five personalities, including a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sergei Pavlovich Roldougin, and Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

In a press release, the US Treasury clarified that the new sanctions were aimed at new oligarchs close to power in Russia, or members of the Moscow “elite”. Several yachts used by Vladimir Putin are also blacklisted by Washington.

Several rounds of economic sanctions have been imposed by the European Union and the United States on Russia to push Vladimir Putin to give up the war in Ukraine, while the Russian army tightens its grip a little more in the east of Ukraine, on the 99th day of the war.

On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, which provoked anger and multiple reactions on an international scale, as well as the imposition of unprecedented and most severe financial and economic sanctions once morest from Moscow.

Russia poses as a prerequisite, to put an end to its operation, the renunciation of Ukraine to its plans to join military entities and alliances, including NATO, and the adoption of a status of “total neutrality “, which kyiv considers to be an “interference in its sovereignty”.
