15 days following Colombians go to the polls once more to elect President of the Republic, the pulse to reach the Casa de Nariño does nothing but tighten.
This is revealed by the results of the most recent tracking presidential, published by La FM. According to the measurement, there is a technical tie between Gustavo Petro and Rodolfo Hernández, the two candidates in dispute. The difference between the two is just 1.6%.
If the elections were held today, Rodolfo Hernández would have 47.9% and Gustavo Petro 46.3%. This is the smallest difference that this measurement has shown following the first lap.
On May 31, Hernández was leading Petro by 7.7%, on June 1 the difference was 7 points and by June 2 it had already been reduced to 5%.
Another trend that the measurement shows is the rise of the white vote. Last Tuesday, those who said they were going to vote blank were 2.7% and now that figure rose to 5.8%.
This week the strong competition began between the two candidates seeking to reach the House of Nariño. They were days of meetings, changes in strategies and alliances.
Petro went on the attack with his bishops. Permanently, he criticized Hernández and revived the Vitalogic case for him. He called it “fascist” and “corrupt.” For his part, the engineer decided not to attack Petro aggressively andon the contrary, focused on the leaders around him, assuring that Colombians will have to decide whether to hand over the country’s checkbook to Roy Barreras and Piedad Córdoba, among others.
The former mayor of Bucaramanga also received the support of Federico Gutiérrez, who obtained more than 5 million votes on May 29, and met with Sergio Fajardo, who, even though he only obtained 4 percent of the vote, posed conditions to the engineer to support him at the polls.
On Petro’s side, his campaign was joined by former presidential candidate Alejandro Gaviria, a large group of Santistas, and the former mayor of Bogotá Antanas Mockus. It is expected that next week the Liberal Party and the New Liberalism, with Juan Manuel Galán, will decide which candidate they will support in the second round.
