Social media topped the issue of a housewife killing her children in Dakahlia Governorate, and then attempted suicide, leaving a message to her husband who works abroad stating that she had confessed to committing the incident, which indicates her psychological condition, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
Last Tuesday, the Public Prosecution issued a statement stating that the mother committed the horrific incident because she suffered from severe postpartum depression, following she gave birth to her daughter 3 months ago.
The case occupied the public opinion following knowing that the reason behind the crime was the state of depression that the mother suffers from. In this context, Al-Shorouk contacted Dr. Walaa Shabana, a mental health consultant, to provide ways and advice to improve mental health before falling into the trap of depression and its consequences.
Shabana says, “First of all, we need to know what mental health is in our lives so that we know how important it is to improve or neglect it? Mental health plays a very important role in a person’s general health, but some people think that mental fatigue has nothing to do with public health, and this is wrong.”
And she continued: “There are health and physical derivations, in psychology there is what is called psychosomatic or psychosomatic diseases, which is the occurrence of some health problems that occur in the body, such as arthritis, muscles and colic. Diarrhea, sudden cramps, vomiting, severe headache, and very many people, when they go through psychological crises, experience all of these symptoms.”
Shabana added: “People do not appreciate the importance of mental health, as there is fibromyalgia, a purely psychological disease to which women are exposed to a greater proportion than men, regarding 80% compared to men’s injuries, and unfortunately it is not directly understood and its diagnosis is not widely spread in Arab countries specifically. And because of the lack of knowledge of the diagnosis of this disease, the patient can go to the doctor and be misdiagnosed, resulting in bad results.”
Shabana explained that the symptoms of fibromyalgia, or what is known in Arabic as neuromuscular pain, are many, including intermittent and unjustified headaches and arthritis, which translates as roughness despite the young age of the case, pain in the muscles of the body on an ongoing basis, which occurs at its peak following going through psychological and neurological problems. .
The nervous system suffers from a disorder that appears in the form of these symptoms, and unfortunately, this disease has the only treatment for psychological comfort, and to stay away from any psychological pressures that humans are exposed to, especially women, because the emotion in women and feelings are more luxurious than men, so we find that the psychology of women is very fragile when facing any problem.
Shabana continued: “After clarifying the importance of mental health, we talk regarding ways to improve it. Mental health shows its problems, in repression, and I will not call it depression because it is a very big diagnosis, so what should we do so that we do not reach the stage of depression that is recognized?”
And she continued: “A person enjoys a positive energy, ridding the body of negative energy in any way, and this energy comes out through anything that a person likes to practice; meaning that there is a person whose nerves calm down just by listening to music, and another whose psychological state improves following reading the Qur’an or walking on The sea smelled of iodine.”
Shabana indicated that she appeals in this report to try to remove repression and negative energy in any way, such as listening to music, walking in the fresh air or running, or even tears and crying, which are very useful.
Among the ways to improve mental health, Shabana says that I must enjoy psychological flexibility that makes me face difficulties and crises in any way, and this flexibility varies from person to person, so we find a person who accepts reality and shock, while another person does not accept that and remains sad and controlled by it. Sadness turns into a real mental illness.
The question here is .. What do I do to get myself back on psychological flexibility?, the mental health consultant answered, a person must be fully convinced that every person who has lineage in this life obtains it, and it is the justice of God – Glory be to Him – so he must enjoy contentment and contentment, and no He grieves when a calamity has occurred or he is deprived of something he desires, and he remembers the words of the Almighty, who said: “And We created man in a liver,” meaning that man lives in misery, and this misery is relative between people and some of them.
In sum, extracting negative energy, flexibility, self-acceptance and circumstances, and commitment to the fresh air rich in oxygen in the early morning until 10 am, and at sunset from 4 pm, these are very important factors for the renewal of psychological energy.
She emphasized that man should try as much as possible to use the first warrior for depression, which is water; Because the use of water in abundance purifies the body from internal toxins that cause a bad mood, as well as the daily routine in eating, and breakfast must be early, because not eating breakfast early causes bad mood and nervous system disorder directly.
He pointed to maintaining the practice of sports in a technical way and correct performance of the movement, and keenness to inhale and exhale, and stimulate blood circulation, and these things in themselves are a positive psychological motive for each individual, and they work to improve the psychological state in a very large way.
