In order to fight once morest unauthorized charging, it will soon be compulsory to charge your electric car in a parking space provided for this purpose, announced on Saturday the Federal Minister for Mobility, Georges Gilkinet, in the newspapers Het Nieuwsblad, Het Belang van Limburg and Gazet van Antwerpen.
From the end of the summer, it will be compulsory to charge your electric vehicle in a parking space equipped with a charging station. Drivers will be allowed to park there while they recharge their batteries, but no longer. The environmental minister thus hopes to ensure a rotation at the charging stations. Georges Gilkinet will also clarify the highway code so that parking on an electric loading area is legally considered as parking.
A “rotation fee”
Owners of charging electric cars will therefore be required to pay for their parking like all other users. Local authorities will be able to sanction drivers who park in a space equipped with a charging station but whose vehicle is not charged.
In Antwerp, for example, there is already a “rotation charge” amounting to 0.01 euro per minute for anyone who remains parked at a public charging station when their battery has already been charged for a long time. In Bruges, on the other hand, parking at a public charging station is allowed for a maximum of two to four hours.
