There was a serious accident on the Bernese A8 motorway shortly following 4:30 p.m. in Iseltwald. According to initial findings, a car coming from Meiringen entered the opposite lane shortly following the Chüebalm tunnel for reasons that have yet to be clarified. The vehicle collided first with an oncoming car from the side and then with another head-on.
The accident claimed several injuries. The driver of the passenger car from Meiringen was slightly injured, but the passenger sustained serious injuries. Both were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
There was also a child in the second oncoming vehicle who was also injured and taken to the hospital. All three cars involved were totaled. The section of the A8 along Brienzerstrasse also had to be completely closed for several hours. The cantonal police in Bern have started investigations into the accident. (dzc)
