FLOWERY BRANCH — Los Atlanta Falcons they will bring back their red helmets for their retro uniforms in the upcoming season.
Los Falcons announced Wednesday night, via a statement, that the team will bring back the red helmet/black jersey combination for the first time since the 2012 season.
The team will debut the retro image, which pays homage to its first uniform, from the 1966 campaign, when they meet the San Francisco 49ers at a local game to be held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on the week 6next Sunday, October 16.
The red helmet features a black and white stripe down the center, with a black logo from the Falcons, and wears a gray mask. The central stripe is flanked in black and white colors. The original color scheme was designed to include the colors of the universities of Georgia y Georgia Techin an effort to try to appeal to college football fans.
Los Falcons wore this version of the helmet in red from 1966 to 1969, before removing the gold color from the combination.
The retro uniforms will also include white shorts with a red stripe flanked by two black stripes, and black and white socks with red and black stripes.
Los Falcons brought back the combination in 2009, and wore the uniform twice a season until 2013, when the rules of the NFL they prohibited teams from wearing more than one helmet per player, for each season.
The league is once more allowing teams to wear a second helmet, beginning in the 2022 season. The second helmet can be worn as part of a retro, rush color, or alternate uniform combination.
