Roland-Garros: Swiatek makes a strong impression

Crowned in 2020 at Porte d’Auteuil, Iga Swiatek will play a second final at Roland-Garros on Saturday. The world no1 crushed Daria Kasatkina (WTA 20) 6-2 6-1 in 64 minutes in the 1st semi-final.

Impressive, the Polish (21) now has 34 consecutive victories on her list. She is doing as well as Serena Williams (34 wins in a row in 2013), and finds herself one length behind the best mark of the 2000s held by Venus Williams (35 matches won in a row in 2000).

The absolute record (74 wins in a row for Martina Navratilova in 1984) is still a long way off. But Swiatek is certainly not thinking regarding it. She is “just” aiming for a second major title, which would allow her to score twice as many points as her future runner-up Anett Kontaveit in the WTA ranking (8631, once morest 4325 for the Estonian)!

Always in the lead

Unbeaten since February 16 and a defeat once morest Jelena Ostapenko in the round of 16 in Dubai, Swiatek won for the 28th time in 2 sets since the start of her fabulous series. Driven by her huge forehand, the grand favorite of the tournament has always been in the lead once morest Kasatkina.

The Pole certainly saw the Russian erase a 1st break behind to pick up from 2-0 to 2-2 in the initial round. But then she raised her level of play considerably, taking advantage of the slightest short ball to attack Kasatkina, and won 10 of the last 11 games of a one-way match.
