Ankara: A Turkish citizen has been arrested for punching an elderly Syrian woman in the face in the Turkish city of Gaziantep. Turkish police say they have arrested Zakir Kakir, who claims to be a refugee. Laila Mohammed was shot in the face while sitting on a bench in a refugee camp. They were admitted to the hospital and are recovering.

Scenes of the young man attacking them went viral. The injured woman is of different abilities. Gaziantep, a Turkish city on the Syrian border, has a population of 20 million. There are also five million Syrian refugees here. Turkey has accepted 3.7 million refugees fleeing Syria as civil strife intensifies. At the same time, many Turkish citizens want the refugees to return. President Rajab Tayyip Erdogan is opposed to this.
