Missile systems for Kyiv: Moscow criticizes Washington

The US government wants to supply Ukraine with modern multiple rocket launchers to defend once morest the Russian invasion as part of a new security package. After the announcement, Moscow warned of a direct military confrontation between the US and Russia.

The leadership in Moscow does not trust that Ukraine will not launch these missiles into Russian territory, Presidential Office spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today. “We believe the US is intentionally adding fuel to the fire. The US is obviously sticking to the line that they will fight Russia to the last Ukrainian.”

According to Peskov, Russia does not rule out a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, every conversation of this kind has to be prepared, said Peskow. The discussions between the two sides on a peace agreement had long ago ceased and have not been resumed.

The people of the Russian-held Ukrainian regions of Kherson, Zaporizhia and Donbas must decide their own future, Peskov added. The Russian government has no doubt that they will make “the best decision”. Ukraine had said that Russia’s annexation of the regions would end peace talks between the two sides.
