Voter turnout in local elections 43.1% as of 3 p.m. 7%p from 4 years ago↓

The National Election Commission announced that as of 3 pm today, the turnout in the 8th National Simultaneous Local Election was 43.1%.

Voting started at 6 am today across the country, with 19,103,024 out of 44.33,449 total voters participating.

This is 7 percentage points lower than the turnout at the same time in the 7th local elections in 2018.

Regarding the low turnout, the National Election Commission said, “It seems that the interest of voters is relatively low as the local elections are held three months following the presidential election in March.” This is due to the dispersion effect.”

By region, Jeonnam currently had the highest voter turnout with 52.3%, followed by Gangwon with 51%, Gyeongbuk with 46.1%, Jeju with 46% and Gyeongnam with 45.5%.

The lowest place was Gwangju with 31.6%, followed by Daegu with 35.8%, Busan with 41.1%, and Daejeon with 42.1%.
