Today (Sunday), the Ministry of Health clarified the difference between lactose intolerance and milk allergy, in terms of causes, symptoms and quantity.
She indicated that the body’s inability to digest lactose is due to a digestive problem, and its symptoms include flatulence, pain and sound in the stomach, feeling tired and nausea, and they appear within a few hours of eating it, noting that eating a small amount of it may not affect, and the severity of symptoms increases with the increase in quantity.
She noted that milk allergy is an adverse reaction of the human body’s immune system to milk, explaining that its symptoms include itching or swelling in the face, throat or skin, as well as wheezing, shortness of breath, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting.
The ministry added that the symptoms of milk allergy appear within minutes, hours or days, pointing out that eating a small amount leads to the induction of the response.
