Foreign media Techpowerup The exclusive news of AMD Zen 4 CPU and AM5 chipset revealed the PCIe and I/O channel specifications. Such a rich number of I/Os is a goodbye to shared channels.
The Zen 4 processor has 28 PCIe 5.0 lanes and functions such as USB. First, 16 PCIe 5.0 can be used for single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot or dual x8 slot expansion, while General Gurpose’s 8 PCIe 5.0 lanes can be used for M .2, Thunderbolt 4, USB 4 and other expansion, it depends on how the motherboard manufacturer plans.
After the Zen 4 processor has a built-in display chip, it can provide up to 4 DP and HDMI output capabilities. Of course, this depends on how the motherboard manufacturer configures the number of internal display outputs; and the CPU also retains USB 2.0 and 4 USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps with DP Alt Mode functionality.
The B650 chipset has 16 PCIe lanes, 4 PCIe 3.0 or SATA ports, 6 USB 2.0, 6 USB 3.2 Gen 2, of which 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 lanes can be integrated into USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 use.
From this specification, the Zen 4 CPU and AM5 chipset can definitely meet the expansion needs of personal PCs and e-sports. Even flagship motherboards with full specifications do not need to share channels. The actual detailed specifications will be left to AMD to announce.
