With the conclusion of the second round of the NHL playoffs on Monday night, the draft picture is a little more precise.
With the elimination of the Carolina Hurricanes at the hands of the New York Rangersthe NHL was able to determine the speaking order of the top 28 teams in the next draft, excluding the four Stanley Cup finalists, as presented CapFriendly in a late-night Twitter post.
The Canadiens have therefore learned that they will be talking 26th overall with the choice that belonged to the Calgary Flames. The latter was obtained by the general manager of the Habs Kent Hughes in the exchange of Tyler Toffoli. The Alberta team, which had been crowned champion of the Pacific Division, was eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers.
The returning selections (before trades) to the Hurricanes and Florida Panthers follow in the draft rank as these two teams, having also won their respective divisions, saw their playoff run come to an end in the second round.
Winner of the lottery, the Habs already hold the very first pick of the 2022 draft, which will take place on July 7 and 8 in Montreal.
