In the old Soviet bloc and in other socialist countries, June 1st was always considered Children’s Day. Ukraine also kept to this tradition. The war has driven countless Ukrainian women and children from their homes. Many of them also in Switzerland. Now displaced Ukrainian mothers are marching in Switzerland for their children, their homeland, once morest the war.
Today, Tuesday, May 31, at 6 p.m., they are holding a Mother’s March on Children’s Day on the Platzspitz near the State Museum in Zurich. The organizers share this Facebook With.
“The war changed everything”
The mother march will probably take place on the last day of May because Ukrainian refugees will no longer be able to use public transport in Switzerland free of charge from June 1st.
The organizers write on their Facebook page: “The war changed everything.” On the mother’s march, “people in embroidered shirts would demand peace for their country, for their children”. “We are a nation of free, courageous and worthy people. Wherever we are, we always take the most important values with us.»
Embroidered shirts
They all carry “the feeling of home in their hearts”. The Ukrainian mothers want to show their children their “parental love and Ukrainian roots”. And everyone should wear their vyshyvanka, the traditional embroidered shirts.
The march is supported by numerous organizations and foundations, including the Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland. (kes)
