Last Tuesday, a shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, left 21 people dead, including 19 young children. This drama, which has upset the American population, has also revived the eternal debate on the carrying of arms, guaranteed across the Atlantic by the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution.
Coincidence (unfortunate) of the calendar, an important convention of the National Rifle Association (NRA) was held a few days later in Houston, still in Texas. During this high mass of the powerful pro-gun lobby, President Wayne LaPierre was attacked by a duo of comedians, The Good Liars.
These actors, well known in the United States, took the floor in what at first resembled a sequence of praise for the president of the NRA. But very quickly, the tone became more and more sarcastic.
“Left media say Wayne LaPierre isn’t doing enough to stop the shootings,” one of the comedians began. “But that’s not true. His thoughts are with the victims and he prays for the families.”
“Maybe these mass shootings would stop happening if we all thought a little more and prayed a little more,” the actor continued, wryly. Before concluding: “I ask everyone in this room to pray a little more”.
The video quickly went viral on social media. Many Internet users were also amused by the bewildered look of Wayne LaPierre when he began to realize the sarcastic turn that the intervention was taking.
