In November, it was announced that Chris Pratt would lend his voice to the sarcastic, lasagna-loving cat, and now his fellow Marvel star has signed on for the project.

According The Wrap, the actor will play a new character, Garfield’s father, Vic, in the film. It has yet to be announced who will play Jon Arbuckle, the owner of the lazy feline who hates Mondays.

The new Garfield movie is directed by Chicken Little maker Mark Dindal from a screenplay written by Finding Nemo screenwriter David Reynolds, with the duo having previously worked together on Kuzco, the Megalomaniac Emperor.

Jim Davis, who created the Garfield comic strip in 1978, will executive produce the film, which will be released by Sony Pictures.

Garfield has appeared numerous times in film and television over the years, and was most recently played by Bill Murray in the 2004 live-action/animated hybrid Garfield and its 2006 sequel Garfield 2.

Samuel L. Jackson has previously voiced the character of Lucius Best, aka Frozone, in The Incredibles franchise and Jimbo in Blazing Samurai in July, as well as his Marvel character, Nick Fury, in the Disney+ animated series. What If…?, last year.
